Shelley-Anne Bacsu

Shelley-Anne Bacsu was a 16-year-old girl from Hinton, Alberta, who disappeared on the evening of May 3, 1983. After babysitting at her boyfriend’s brother’s trailer in the Sunset Trailer Park, approximately 7 km from her home, Shelley-Anne called her mother and said she would be home in about 15 minutes. She even asked her mom to make her some pasta for when she arrived home.

Shelley-Anne had told her family she was getting a ride home from a friend, however he later stated he had never been contacted by her to pick her up. Witnesses later reported seeing Shelley-Anne walking along Highway 16 carrying what appeared to be school books. Other witnesses reported seeing an unknown van with a tall blonde male driver, where a young girl was allegedly being pushed or pulled into the vehicle. It was also reported there were additional people inside the van.

When Shelley-Anne failed to return home, her family immediately became worried and searched the route themselves before contacting the RCMP. Days later, several of her personal belongings were discovered near the Athabasca River, leading investigators to believe foul play was involved.

Despite decades of investigation and renewed forensic efforts, Shelley-Anne has never been found. Her case remains open with the RCMP Historical Homicide Unit, and her family continues searching for answers more than 40 years later.

A reward of $50,000 is being offered for information that leads to answers in Shelley-Anne’s disappearance.
