Jane (Winnifred) Smith

Jane Smith, a university student, went missing on Saturday, August 9, 1975, in Sudbury, Ontario. That day, Jane worked a shift at Canadian Tire on Barrydowne Road and returned home that evening to her basement apartment. She was last seen by her boyfriend and / or roommate sometime between midnight and 2:00 a.m.

When her roommate woke at approximately 7:30 a.m., Jane was no longer in the apartment. Concern quickly grew when she failed to report for her scheduled shift at Canadian Tire later that afternoon, and she was subsequently reported missing.

Jane was originally from the Newmarket/Aurora area and had chosen to remain in Sudbury for the summer to be close to her friends and boyfriend. The apartment was about a 25-minute bus ride from her workplace, and Jane typically took the bus or was picked up by her boyfriend.

In the decades since her disappearance, Jane’s bank account has never been accessed, and given the length of time she has been missing, police now suspect foul play. Her case remains unresolved, leaving her family and loved ones without answers.
