Nearly 14 years after Mount Allison University student Chris disappeared, his family continues to search for answers in a case that remains one of New Brunswick’s enduring missing person mysteries.

Originally from Listuguj, Quebec, Chris was attending Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick, located approximately a 3½- to 4-hour drive from his family home.

On the evening of Saturday, November 24, 2012, Chris attended a house party on Allison Avenue with friends. According to those who were with him, he consumed a significant amount of alcohol and at one point passed out in a bedroom after removing his shoes and glasses and leaving behind his cellphone.

After waking up, Chris accompanied a friend to a nearby home on Wellington Street. While there, he became ill and decided he wanted to return to his residence on Maple Avenue. Realizing he had left his shoes behind at the earlier party, he borrowed a pair of flip-flops from his friend before setting out on foot.

The last confirmed sighting by someone who knew Chris occurred at approximately 2:00 a.m. as he walked toward Bridge Street. The walk home should have taken about 20 minutes, but he never arrived.

Investigators later determined that several early reports circulating after Chris’s disappearance were inaccurate. Police confirmed Chris was not at Home Alone Pizza that night, was not captured on surveillance footage near Jean Coutu, and was not seen walking on the Trans-Canada Highway.

A critical witness came forward after seeing Chris several hours later.

At approximately 5:30 a.m. on Sunday, November 25, a man driving to work noticed someone walking alone on Upper Aboujagane Road. Finding the situation unusual, the driver turned around to take another look. Initially believing the individual was carrying bolt cutters, he contacted police to report a suspicious person entering the wooded area.

While waiting for officers to arrive, the witness observed the individual again and realized the object was not bolt cutters but two long, white reflective driveway markers. When police arrived, he provided a description of the individual and the direction in which he had been walking.

The witness reported that no other vehicles or pedestrians were in the area that morning.

Investigators later determined that Chris had walked onto Ward Siding Road, a muddy, unmaintained road connecting to White Birch Road. Days later, searchers located his footprints approximately 12 kilometres from the house party. No other footprints were found.

Chris’s family did not learn he was missing until the evening of November 25, when his brother, who was also attending Mount Allison University, contacted their mother. She immediately began calling the RCMP before driving overnight from Quebec to Sackville. Chris was officially reported missing the following morning.

Police informed the family about the earlier report of a man seen walking into the woods carrying what was initially believed to be bolt cutters. The description matched Chris’s clothing from the previous evening.

The borrowed flip-flops were later recovered on Ward Siding Road, and search teams followed Chris’s footprints toward White Birch Road. Search efforts focused on the Tantramar River and a nearby hayfield, where the footprints appeared to end after Chris crossed onto grass. Divers searched the river but found no evidence. The reflective driveway markers Chris had been carrying have never been recovered.

Over the years, investigators have considered multiple theories. Some believe Chris may have entered the Tantramar River and been carried toward the Bay of Fundy, while others believe he may still be somewhere within the surrounding wooded area.

Since his disappearance, Chris’s family has returned to the area year after year, organizing extensive searches with volunteers, cadaver dogs, drones, and private helicopters in an effort to locate him.

Despite years of searches and investigations, Chris’s disappearance remains unsolved. His family continues to hope that someone who knows what happened will come forward with the information needed to finally bring him home.
